Excellent string of Pema Raka (Nan Hong) beads made of 18 pieces. Beautiful patina and surface wear appropriate to age. These beads come from China-Tibet, and were well known in Hymalaya and Mongolia, 18th century or before.
\"Pema Raka\" is the Tibetan name and originates from the sanskrit words \"Padma\" (meaning Lotus flower) and \"Rakta\" (meaning red or blood), so the translation sounds like \"blood lotus\" or \"red lotus\". Nan hong means \"red from south\" in chinese.These beads range from orange to deep red in colour, depending on iron\'s inclusions in chalcedony. They might also display crystalline banding, like some of these, presenting a fantastic white pattern.In Tibetan medicine they are supposed to protect to evil.
