Stunning Antique Victorian Nursery Or Club Brass Wire And Fender For Sale
A very grand fire fender comprising a solid brass gallery and iron wire lattice. Designed and built in Victorian Britain, intended to keep small fingers and ladies' crinolines away from the fire. Very effective at both functions still, but also highly useful, not to mention decorative, in a period house where risk averse cats or dogs are resident and whom, like Bertie Wooster's dog 'Melba', just can't get close enough to the toasting fire.Large in scale at 42 inches wide, so suited to a larger fireplace. Lovely condition, since the iron work has been at some point treated to a re blackening and the brass shone up to high shine. Happily all of the wire is present and in good order, which is unusual to find.Very smart, very useful and moreover a bonafide Victorian antique.
