STUNNING EXQUISITE FRENCH DECO COMPACT w/ ORNATE LID & SUNBURST DESIGN ON BACK:

This delightful little French compact by CHERAMY is still in lovely condition after nearly 100 years of use! When I found it with a group of vintage compacts at an estate sale, it was almost black from age and discoloration. A LOT of polishing revealed the superb decoration on the lid showing a marvelous sunburst design and circled with a lovely decorated repousse band. The back is equally fine. with a different variation on a sunburst design.

The compact is small, measuring 1 1/2\" in diameter. The glowing gold sunburst-decorated lid is edged with a repousse design of little gold beads, a long flowing line and tiny teardrop shapes on a dark background in perfect condition. The sides show some finish wear but have no dents or dings. Marked along the edge CHERAMY~FRANCE. The back is one large gleaming gold sunburst with no dents of dings and only a tiny bit of finish wear along a bit of the edge. The hinge is tight and the clasp closes securely.

Inside, the mirror is clear, with just a hint of hazing. There is a small bit of corrosion on part of the frame. Below is a nice removable rouge tin which is empty. The base of the tin is gold-washed and marked CHERAMY~FRANCE. The base of the rouge well is also gold-washed and echoes the sunburst design on the back of the compact.

This is a real little gem of an Art Deco piece!
