This is a simply beautiful example of the solid 14ct gold Rolex Oyster dating from the mid-1950’s – sadly and like a lot of gold watches from this period we cannot read the serial number in full so can’t give it an exact year (Rolex printed the serial number between the lugs under the ‘6’ baton but this tended to get badly worn with the bracelet rubbing against it and polishing). We know it’s mid-1950’s from the dial style, inside case reference and movement.

The solid 14ct gold case is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear. The original Rolex signed steel dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standards and is classically Rolex. The applied gold batons and original gold dauphine hands provide a lovely contrast to the dial and are perfectly framed by the slim solid gold fluted bezel (they were slightly slimmer in the 1950’s). The very high grade Rolex signed automatic movement is again in very good condition and very rarely it’s the ‘butterfly’ rotor version – Rolex only used this rotor on a limited number of movements and it’s so called due to the antenna style cut outs on the rotor. The movement has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. To complete this beautiful piece we’ve added a new, high quality, dark brown crocodile skin strap with an aftermarket gold plated Rolex buckle.

Watches of this quality and in this condition are extremely rare and highly sought after – if history is any judge they will only increase in value.

As mentioned, it has just been serviced by my watchmaker and, in view of the high-grade Swiss movement, I will include a 12 month guarantee on the movement.

The Case

The solid 14ct gold case is in excellent condition with only the most minor signs of wear. The case measures 33mm across, excluding the Rolex signed winding crown, and 40mm long including the lugs. The inside case is signed ‘Montres Rolex SA Geneva Switzerland Patented’ and the case number is ‘6567’. It also has the appropriate hallmarks for solid 14ct gold.

The Dial

The original Rolex signed steel dial has been professionally refinished to the highest possible standards and is classically Rolex. The applied gold batons and original gold dauphine hands provide a lovely contrast to the dial and are perfectly framed by the slim solid gold fluted bezel (they were slightly slimmer in the 1950’s). The dial is signed ‘Rolex Oyster Perpetual’, ‘Officially Certified Chronometer’ and ‘Swiss’.

The Movement

The movement has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. The movement is signed ‘Rolex Perpetual Patented’, ‘Montres Rolex SA Geneva Swiss’, ‘Twenty Five 25 Jewels’, ‘Adjusted 5 Positions and Temperature’ and the calibre is ‘1030’. The movement number is N764655.

The Strap

To complete this beautiful piece we’ve added a new, high quality, dark brown crocodile skin strap with an aftermarket gold plated Rolex buckle. We also the Hirsch franchise and can supply any colour/material in the their range.

The Box, Papers and Sonning Warranty

As with the majority of pre-owned watches that are 10 years or older, this particular watch does not come with its original box or paperwork. The watch is 100% genuine and rest assured we provide a lifetime guarantee on the authenticity and provenance of all the watches we sell.

Although there is no original paperwork, we do provide a written invoice and 3 page insurance valuation with the pictures of the watch and all available reference numbers.
