Offered here is a really nice French M1831 Foot Artillery Short Sword or Gladius by COULAUX & Cie. The brass mounted leather scabbard is marked 'GIRARD LOUIS A CHATELLERAULT'. This is probably the best M1831 I have seen in years. Both sword and scabbard are 100% sound and 100% original with only minor age related dinks and a small gouge to the edge of the scabbard leather - no edge nicks to the blade and no looseness/play between blade and handle as ofter encountered (see photos). Sword measures 25", blade 19 1/8" and sword in scabbard 26 1/4".
