Superb pair of Georgian sterling silvercandlesticks, fully hallmarkedfor Sheffield 1780.
This is a lovely and earlySheffield pair of silver candlesticks made in the reign of King George III by John Winter in 1780.
The candlesticks have straight sided fluted urn form candle holders abovelong tapering fluted stems.
They stand on round spreading pedestal bases.
The candlesticks have bands of beading decoration below the urn holders and around the base.
The candlesticks are 5-1/2 inches / 140 mm in diametre and they stand 11-1/4 inches / 285 mm high.They are weighted and weigh 1,485 grams.
The sides of both candlesticks have clear and matching hallmarks - lion passant, crown for Sheffield, letter C for 1780 and maker's mark IW&Cofor John Winter& Co.
The candlesticks areoverall ingood condition with no dents. There is wear tothe inner band of beading on the base with holes -this is shown clearly inthe 8th picture. They donot have sconces.
