The Dragon In The Sea Signed Frank Herbert Science Fiction Classic His 1st Book:
"The Dragon In The Sea", Early Book Club Edition, of Frank Herbert's first book, predating the Gutter Code, which begin use in 1958, and SIGNED by the legendary Frank Herbert. This dystopian epic by Herbert was first serialized in the pulps from 1955 to 1956, then reworked, and published by Doubleday in 1956. Set in a near-future earth, the West and the East have been at war for more than a decade, and resources are running thin. The West is stealing oil from the East with specialized nuclear submarines ("subtugs") that sneak into the underwater oil fields of the East to secretly pump out the oil and bring it back. Each manned by a crew of four, these submarines undertake the most hazardous, stressful mission conceivable, and of late, the missions have been failing, with the last twenty submarines simply disappearing. (form Wikipedia) Frank Herbert, is of course hugely talented science fiction author, who is best known for his novel "Dune" and its five sequels. This novel, like so many of Herbert's books including the Dune saga, also deals with themes such as human survival and evolution, ecology, and the intersection of religion, politics and power. Herbert's masterpiece "Dune" itself is perhaps the best-selling science fiction novel of all time, and the series is considered among the best in the genre. This signed book is in NEAR FINE condition with the top edge browned, and top front corners very slightly bumped, in a VERY GOOD PLUS dustwrapper with edge and corner wear, and a small (1/8 inch) 'u' shaped tear at the top spine. Before photographing, we take the dustwrappers OUT of the sleeves in order to give you the best idea of condition possible, but all books are put in sleeves before they ship.
