In this chatty letter she is writing about the heat, asking about old friends from the theatre and Providence, preparing for what is obviously a new production, more... 4 pages, 5" x 8", folds, very good condition with original envelope. An early note was been pinned to the letter stating it was from Maggie Mitchell the actress......MARGARET "MAGGIE" MITCHELL [1832-1918] was one of the great American theatre actresses of the 19th Century, and a favorite performer of President Abraham Lincoln. Ironically, she was openly sympathetic to the Confederate cause and liked to dance on the American flag as a defiant stand in support of the South. She was a good friend of John Wilkes Booth, the future assassin of the President, and often appeared on stage with him.
