This fine letter is now being offered again for those who are still interested ].......A rare and original handwritten letter from famed American actress MAGGIE MITCHELL to her good friend Job Carpenter, Treasurer of the Forbes Theatre in Providence, Rhode Island, dated New York, June 25, 1858. In this chatty letter she is writing about the heat, asking about old friends from the theatre and Providence, preparing for what is obviously a new production, more... 4 pages, 5" x 8", folds, very good condition with original envelope. An early note was been pinned to the letter stating it was from Maggie Mitchell the actress......MARGARET "MAGGIE" MITCHELL [1832-1918] was one of the great American theatre actresses of the 19th Century, and a favorite performer of President Abraham Lincoln. Ironically, she was openly sympathetic to the Confederate cause and liked to dance on the American Flag as a defiant stand in support of the South. She was a good friend of John Wilkes Booth, the future assassin of the President, and often appeared on stage with him.
