Thompson "new England Style" Sewing Machine Brattleboro Vt. Bays R/5:
Up for sale: THOMPSON "NEW ENGLAND STYLE" SEWING MACHINE BRATTLEBORO VT. BAYS R/5. The mechanism moves freely on this 1860's machine and some of the hand painted decorationis still visable. There is a paper label on the underside of the stitch plate on which one can make out Brattleboro, VT. and the Thompson name which is fairly unusual for aNew England style machine. This machine has a feed system under the stitch plate as opposed to thetop feed of most New England styles. Carter Bays in his book "THE ENCYCLOPEDIA of EARLY AMERICAN SEWING MACHINE" 1993 1st edition, lists this machine as a rarity.
