Offered is what I believe to be a rare Tiffany Studios “etched” box in what must be a very rare pattern resembling ferns or possibly feathers. The box is not signed, but everything about it, from the quality of construction to the patinated finish, would indicate that this is the work of Tiffany Studios. The finely made pierced frame is accented with applied beaded decoration and is raised on four ball feet. It is lined with striated green and white slag glass. The construction details are everything one would expect of Tiffany Studios with beautifully crisp pierced decoration of a naturalistic motif brought to abstraction, corners and edges precisely made and finished, a well made hinge, and an exceptional patina. The dimensions are exactly those of a pine needle pattern piece I found described as a cigarette box. Wear and signs of age indicate it is all original and of the period. In researching this I did come across a couple of references to patterns that never went into full production or were of very limited production. It is in excellent condition with the exception of the back panel which is pushed in slightly which has broken the glass, and some of the glass is missing. This could be easily remedied. Needs a good bath, but there is no other damage and the original patina is in excellent condition. Measures 5 1/2” width x 4” depth x 2 1/4” height.
