His 1950 publication, "Electrons and Holes in Semiconductors" was the first book on transistor electronics (cf. The volume contains 35 articles total; Shockley's second main contribution addresses the p-n Junction, "The Theory of p-n Junctions in Semi-Conductors and p-n Junction Transistors", a scientific path of investigation which would lead to the development of the "elementary 'building blocks' of almost all semiconductor electronic devices such as diodes, transistors, solar cells, LEDs, and integrated circuits..."
