About This Book & its Condition: (Sept./ Nov. 1964): Produced by Dell at the fevered peak of Beatlemania in 1964, this 76 page "giant" contains the "Official" "Complete Life Stories" of the Fab Four, and says so right on the cover! From a publishing perspective, the book was something of an extravagance, crammed full of portraits, numerous other glossy pinups, and a veritable treasury of colorful comic book pages relating the ordinary events in the lives of four young men from the port city of Liverpool, England, that together created a musical and cultural phenomenon that was anything but! The 35¢ cover price, apparently shocking at a time when 12¢ was the norm (and 80-page Giants went for a quarter), resulted in extremely disappointing sales. Today, the book is called "scarce" by Overstreet.
(I found the content of the book quite interesting, and much more substantive than I might have expected. Even as a longtime, fairly diehard fan, I learned quite a bit from the stories told (Did you know, for example, that Ringo was hospitalized for much of his childhood, and quite solitary as a result?)
From a collector's perspective, this book is appealing for a number of reasons. Dell photo covers are increasingly prized, it is a pure product of an outstandingly "collectible" era, and an absolutely unique bridge between the fields of music, nostalgia, popular culture, and comic art, because Hey! it's the Beatles we're talking, here!! In simple terms, a surprising number of people really want this book, and for many of those buyers, it may well be the only comic book they own. Fans of of the band remain legion, are world-wide and of all ages, and likely only to increase in number as the years go by. The existing supply of this nearly 50-year-old book is already far outstripped by outrageous demand, yet the shining star of the Beatles' legend and legacy continues only to rise, showing no signs whatsoever of diminishing, ever. Here is a truly nice copy, infinitely better than most (which is admittedly not saying much, as you know if you've ever tried to find one!). Its cover is glossy, and page quality superb throughout. No tears, stains, or discoloration, at all. Colors are rich, deep, and "fresh." Absolutely intact, its spine perfect, and and marred at all only by lightest wear on the bottom FC, a small crease in its bottom R corner, and some light "waviness" along the spine. (I'm not even certain this would be a defect, as it does not appear related to age, and we're not talking creasing, or even wrinkling. The cover is smooth. It may result simply from the considerable thickness of the book.)
I'll shut up now, so you can offer! Sincere thanks for your time and attention. You people make it all worthwhile. Enjoy the sale!

One of my Favorite Subjects (or, About Me.) I am a long-time collector who has been ridiculously passionate about this art form as long as he can remember. I’ve started “letting go” of some of the gems in my far-flung, generally out-of-control collection, for a number of reasons with which I am at peace. I'll spare you the "my pain, your gain" line, because in truth I feel that I have been abundantly blessed and my life enriched by these comic books, and (at least) equally so by the relationships/ friendships/ alliances formed along the way of my improbable journey. I love the idea of others finding in the books that "special thrill" that is always a really great feeling, but new only once.
I am: in my "day job," a professional (my secret identity!) who gets by, and an artist (painter), because that's my calling.
