This is the Theo Faberge St. Petersburg Friendship Egg Number 57 of Sold Out Edition of 250 c. 1990
This unusual work of art and superb craftsmanship is titled the "Friendship Egg." It was created by master craftsman Theo Faberge c.1990 to commemorate the largest exhibition of Faberge Imperial Eggs.
The egg also celebrated the new era of friendship between the Soviet Union and USA that led to the end of the Cold War. The "Friendship Egg" is beautiful and at the same time commemorates a very important and nearly forgotten time in the modern history of our world.
The sky blue lead crystal egg is adorned with 23 karat gold and enameled with ribbons of colors representing the USA and Soviet Union Flags in the form of rainbows, expressing hope for the future. A gold vermeil crown is set with a cabochon ruby and rests atop the blue crystal egg.The "surprise" (inside) is a model of a gazebo in Sterling Silver gilded with 24 karat gold. The silver Gazebo contains a miniature egg of lapis lazuli representing the birth of a new era of friendship. The gazebo rests atop a round silver platform that contains several British hall marks, including TF, an anchor, a lion passant, and the letter "P".
The Faberge Friendship Egg was made in an edition of only 250. This egg is #57. It is a sold-out closed edition, and is signed "T.Faberge" on the bottom of the crystalegg. The number 25 is also etched into the bottom of the egg. Please see photograph.
The "Friendship Egg" is approximately 5 1/2 inches high, included is the original presentation case, gold in color on the outside with white and beige velvet lining inside. A likeness of Theo Faberge's signature is imprinted on the left door. There is a recessed circle in which the "Friendship Egg" gracefully rests.
