Three Postcard Albums Vermont And Northeast Interest, Also Holidays, valentines For Sale
I was going to sell these post card albums separately and I might if someone makes an offer for one. These are three old albums, and they show it as many of the hinges holding the cards are broken, I even broke a few trying to get the cards out. The bindings of two of the albums are very worn and pages are loose or pages are coming out. Ask for more details if interested. They all seem to have a Vermont connection and the sale house where i bought them in New Hampshire is about 5 miles from Vermont. The first album seems to be the most personal. Dean Zeller of Grafton Vermont was the collector and the photo of the girl might be a friend or a sister. Most of the cards are from 1907 until about 1925 although there are some later ones to him and/or perhaps mother or wife as there is a Minnie Zeller mentioned. The first few pages are devoted to other areas of the country with post cards of Alabama, Massachusetts, and somewhere in the Rockies, etc. He had two pages of humorous cards with eight cards in amazing condition I think with post marks about 1910. The latter pages are holiday post cards. Most of the cards appear to be in good basic condition, some extraordinary for 100+ years old. Some are unused but I think the majority were sent to him or someone in his family as many of the cards show addresses in Grafton, Vermont. The inside cover also has a Christmas sticker pasted and an initial of a person(s) of who probably gave this as a gift to Zeller. Also in this sticker the date 1906 is written. Everything on the sticker is written in pen, and I assume it was a Christmas present to Zeller. I think he was probably a young teenager then. There is a valentine type card with hearts, and the card is shaped like a heart pasted onto the inside back cover. There are 43 cards altogether. I would say most of these cards are of high quality and interest. The second album has some Vermont post cards, particularly black and white and unused but the majority are color of other states. This is a motley group because there is a card from 1907 and oddly one from 1979. Many of the cards are black and white and many are color. The black and white are mostly unused VT cards. The color cards are from states such as New York and Illinois, etc. Like the first book, the binding is very worn, many hinges are broken on the pages, and there is fading and wear and losses and fading of the black pages that hold the cards. The cards themselves are mostly in very good condition. That is true for all three albums. I checked the post cards and some were used and more not. I have seen a lot of post cards the past few months from 1907 and wonder many post offices didn't stamp dates before that. I didn't see any holiday cards, two restaurant post cards. Altogether there are about 47 cards. There are no names on the album or mementoes on the album inside covers and outside covers. The third book has the most post cards and even though the album is not in good condition, it is in the best condition of the the three. This also doesn't have any names or mementoes on the inside covers, or the outside covers for that matter. There is only one card on each page and again many of the hinges are broken and losses and fading of the pages. The front and back covers and the binding are pretty good. This has about 87 cards. Most of the cards are holiday cards almost all Valentine's Day and Easter. These cards were addressed to various people in the Northeast. I have a feeling a woman collected these cards that she found at tag sales, or friends gave her as the addresses are from various states, mostly in the Northeast. The album is so old I would think that the cards were collected over a period of two decades. I saw years of post marks like 1910, 1916, 1922, although many cards are unused. Some of the Valentine's Day's cards are a bit humorous, some with short poems. Make a good offer if interested. If you would like to know more let me know. Even at $250 that is much less than 2 dollars a post card, almost all from many decades ago.
