c. 1880s Tinted Tintype
TWO PRE-TEEN BROTHERS
WEARING SACK SUITS
- Cream-colored paper mounting with pink ornamental edge rules - measures 3-1/8 x 4-1/2".
- Backing slip of thin pink paper glued on three sides of the back to hold the tintype in place.
- Approx 1/6-plagee tintype, larger than the visible portion, which is a domed rectangle measuring 2 x 3-1/4".
Full-figure portrait of two older boys with such similar features that they are surely brothers, perhaps only a year or two apart in age (perhaps 12 and 13 years old). The both wear good examples of the boxy jackets of the "sack suit" style. Their contrasting trousers both have subtle stripes. Both of them have split collars and small ribbon ties with the ends tucked under the collar.
The ornate painted backdrop is typical of the 1880s.
CONDITION: Good tintype in a Very Good or better mounting. Mounting with a trace of edge wear, light crease to the bottom left corner, slight yellowing to the back slip. Tintype with overall crazing visible when the image is viewed at a slant
