Towle Silversmiths Sterling Silver Bombe Tea Caddy C1910 Rare For Sale
RARE c1910 TOWLE STERLING SILVER GEORGE III FORM TEA CADDY; ELEGANT BOMBE FORM WITH SHELL, FLORAL AND DIAMOND PATTERN; EXCELLENT
We are quite pleased to offer this rare c1910 Towle sterling silver shell and diamond bombe caddy.
A superb re-creation of a c1790 George III form.
The well regarded Newburyport, Massachusetts firm dates back to William Moulton born 1664. The first in a long line of Towle silversmiths. Towle and Jones 1857. The firm adopted its distnctive T faming standing lion mark c1890. The very same mark on this elegant caddy.
As noted bombe form. The most desired of all tea caddy shapes.
The upper centre with raised fruit and floral vine frame medallion. Flanked by shell and vine cap fluted and raised floral legs. Culminating in thin panel scroll cap and tip feet. United by wavy vine and floral streams.
Shoulder with unique diamond and bead panel work.
Well cast and fit cover. Topped with raised bud and globe cap finial. Atop streaming bead and flower framed corner.
Hallmarked as shown.
This c1910 Towle Silversmiths bombe caddy is 5 1/4 inches tall and weighs 8 1/2 (standard) ounces.
Excellent condition. Rich, lustreous silver patina. The beautifully detailed shell ,floral and diamond pattern work retains its original detail. Cover closes flush.
