Esterbrook # 788 OVAL POINT pen nibs.
Two (2) vintage#788 R.Esterbrook fountain pen nibs.
These are rigid points. Never used but may have some teeny rust spots which I'm told is normal for these pen tips as they haven't been made since the company ceased producing them in 1952.
Perfect if you are a calligrapher, collectoror a pen restorer.
For almost 100 years Esterbrook penshave madehigh quality steel pensfor fine lines and smooth writing.
Made in the USA in Camden, NJ.
They typically sell for 3-4 bux each.
I contacted an expert in Esterbrook pens and sent him photos of these and this was his response:
Hi Max,I must admit there is a feature of your pens I have never seen before. Your pens are stamped "U.S. America."I have never seen that before. It's usually "Made in USA." I have been collecting and documenting for years and that is the first I have seen of it. It would also appear that your pens are groove stamped. The company stamp has a "period" at the end which I have dated to around 1945-46. This is a period of adjustment for Esterbrook. The war was over and there changes in product perception. It is during this time that I see the most fluctuation with their product identity. I have seen the Co. and CO. and CO have either a groove or grind. My research stated that that there was a movement to suggest that pen makers go back to grinding and proclaim that they still grind their pens for better flexibility.Clearly this didn't last long as later pens went back to groove stamping and a few years later they stopped making pens altogether.
These are of interest to me solely because of the "U.S. America" stamp which I would want to catalog. Thanks for sharing this with me.Best regards, Brandon McKinney
