Two Antique Boxed Sterling Silver Charles Horner Hatpins - Chester, 1911:
Two good-quality decorative antique Art Nouveau sterling hatpins by Charles Horner, in a fitted box.The two hatpins are of differing distinctive designs - a decorative "swirling open knot" design, and an unusual "ball with fins" design.
Both pins are fully hallmarked with the sterling silver mark, makers mark CH, Chester mark and date letter (see photos).
The date letter on the "ball and fins" design is for 1911, the date letter on the "swirling open knot" design is worn and indistinct.
In original green leather-effect box retailed by Haughton & Co, 32 Poultry, Cheapside, London. Both hatpins have a total length of approximately 285mm (11.25"). Both of the decorative ends each measure approximately 35 x 20mm (1.40 x 0.8").
Both the steel pins are original, long and straight - approx 250mm (9.85") - with good sharp points and are both stamped PAT 1679.In good original condition, with a few small marks from age and use. The pins have a slight amount of tarnish, would probably benefit from a gentle clean.
