Original UNITED STATES OF AMERICA document No.15,532 is in very fine condition. Intact with no separations at the folds. Original folds and folded in half for storage.
Issued to James W. Rupell, Esq accompanied by Mrs. Elwood, Children & Servant, 19th day of September, A.D. 1864;Physical description of Mr. Rupell provided with his signature.
Signed, William H, Seward, Secretary of State at the time. A prominent political historical figure of the State of New York, a cofounder of New York's Republican party. Who as the favorite to become the nominee of the party for president became a key figure in President Lincoln's cabinet. As Secretary of State, despised by the Confederacy as a result of his efforts keeping the European powers out of the conflict, was targeted with assasination and severally injured as a result. Responsible for the Alaskan purchase from Russia, as his folly.
Back has a blue ink stamp "Seen at the Consulate of the United States of America at Liverpool, 22 Apr 1865........, New York" with the seal of the UNITED STATES CONSULATE, LIVERPOOL impressed on the document.
