Ultra-rare Dirty Duck Original Comic Strip Bobby London 1972 For Sale
ULTRA-ULTRA RARE original DIRTY DUCK comic strip by iconic pioneering “underground” cartoonist, BOBBY LONDON, 1972 (paper size: 17 1/2" x 4 5/8"); paper has yellow glue staining as seen in scans. The 2nd panel has an acetate overlay which London taped onto the strip, on which he spattered black india ink to create the dirty-air affect as seen in the scan; the image of Duck shaking his laundry is drawn on the paper, beneath the overlay. Pen and ink with blue pencilling. Signed. Paper is solid and untorn; there is a small tear in the acetate at the top left. The back of the paper has glue staining as seen in scan below. This strip features Dirty Duck and Weevil. Note London’s EARLY signature in last panel.
Months before SOMEDAY FUNNIES’ MIchel Choquette arrived in San Francisco to invite London to contribute to his book and join NATIONAL LAMPOON, London was paying the rent with a weekly, politically correct version of the DIRTY DUCK comic strip for the San Francisco GOOD TIMES.
