A scarce original example and in premium condition, a unique opportunity to acquire a wonderful original example

Pieced at the top so can be worn as a pendant

Egyptian amulets were made from a variety of materials - many from a blue- or green-glazed composition known as Egyptian faience - a ceramic composed of crushed sand or quartz with small amounts of lime and either natron or plant ash. This was coated with a vitreous-alkaline glaze, generally bright blue-green in colour due to the use of copper. Other materials used include glass, semi-precious stones (including carnelian and the prized Lapis lazuli), and less commonly bronze, gold and silver

Memphis became the capital of Ancient Egypt for over eight consecutive dynasties during the Old Kingdom. The city reached a peak of prestige under the 6th dynasty as a centre for the worship of Ptah, the God of creation and artworks. The alabaster Sphinx that guards the Temple of Ptah serves as a memorial of the city's former power and prestige

The Memphis triad, consisting of the creator God Ptah, his consort Sekhmet, and their son Nefertem, formed the main focus of worship in the city

The major excavations of the British Egyptologist Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie, conducted from 1907 to 1912 at Memphis, uncovered the majority of the ruins as seen today. Major discoveries on the site during these excavations included the pillared hall of the temple of Ptah, the pylon of Rameses II, the great alabaster Sphinx, and the great wall north of the palace of Apries. He also discovered the remains of the Temple of Amun of Siamon, and the Temple of Ptah of Merneptah

Ptah, the Egyptian creator God was revered as the God of all craftsmen because he was believed to have crafted the universe and the other Gods. He was particularly associated with the building of massive great architectural monuments and temples including the pyramids of Giza. The name Ptah is believed to have derived from the ancient Egyptian word for 'sculptor'. He was revered as the chief God of the Memphis Triad with his wife the lioness Goddess Sekhmet and his son Nefertum

In ancient Egypt there was no single God, the Egyptian religion allowed for an unlimited number of Gods and Goddesses. There was not a single ‘Holy Book’, and there were different versions of Creation myths which featured Gods from different locations. These religious cults provided the basis of ancient Egyptian religion. Often three favored Gods were worshipped which are referred to as a triad. The most famous triads of Egyptian Gods were the Triad of Thebes and the Triad of Memphis

Ptah was the Egyptian creator God of craftsmen, the earth and the Underworld, Sekhmet was the lioness sun Goddess of war and Nefertum was the lotus God of healing, representing beauty, perfumes and fragrance

A beautiful original example of an Egyptian "Memphis Triad" amulet, which would have been used to invoke the creative power of Ptah and the Memphis Triad
