Unusual Antique Victorian Silver & Scottish Agate Bookmark By James Fenton 1888:
A very unusual antique sterling silver novelty bookmark in the form of a sword, the hilt shape finial inset with a jasper agate. Fully hallmarked with the anchor for the assay town of Birmingham, struck horizontally for small pre-1900 work, the lion passant for the sterling standard guarantee, and the gothic style date letter 'O' for the year 1888. Maker's mark: J.F for the famous silversmith James Fenton who later manufactured some wonderful art nouveau work both in silver and jewellery.
This early example of his work comes in excellent original condition with just slight 'waving' of the blade consistent with age and use but nothing much at all. No dents or repairs and no damage to the inner jasper cabochon within the hilt.
A rare bookmark, ideal for a collection. Length: Delivery= EUROPE= airmail + Airsure USA + ALL OTHER COUNTRIES= airmail + Airsure FREE
