GLASS CUTTER: T. G. Hawkes & Company of Corning, New York

SIGNATURE: They are both signed as shown on the top of their bases.

PATTERN NAME AND REFERENCE: The exact pattern name is unknown to me. There are 2 pieces shown in the book Hawkes Hunter by Waher that include cutting like on my compotes. Figure 142 shows a dish with the same ovals and satin engraving and figure 206 shows a bowl with the same Greek Key boarder.

AGE: These were made sometime in the early 1900's.

BLACK LIGHT TEST RESULTS: Confirms American Brilliant Period (approximately 1876-1916)

MEASUREMENTS: One is 6-3/8" high and the other is 1/16" shorter. One is approximately 9-1/8" in diameter on top and the other is 9"

WEIGHT / RING: They weigh slightly over 3 pounds each and have a beautiful long lasting ring when tapped.

BLANKS / GLASS CLARITY: Blown / Bright and clear.

CUTTING DETAILS: The Greek Key and ovals are cut deeply into the thick glass. The fine engraved details are purposely unpolished to provide a nice contrast. The overall precision is very good.

POLISHING QUALITY: The polished areas look and feel very crisp.

CONDITION REPORT (ALWAYS VERY PICKY): A discerning eye may spot a few minor touchups to the top rims, but there is nothing that jumps out at you. On the outer lower edge of one rim is a hard to notice shallow chip that is only 1/8" in size. Otherwise there are a few typical scattered pinpoint sized nicks on the rims. The pattern areas on the underside have a few minor scratches if you look hard for them, but they look great otherwise. The panel cut stems and bases look great also. The bottoms show minimal fine wear scratches on the high spots and the top interiors look very good.

FINAL COMMENTS: Please remember that you are getting 2 matching compotes for this one offer. These unusual compotes are surely hard to find as a pair and could be considered rare. The new owner will definitely be proud to add them to their collection!

SHIPPING & INSURANCE: A flat rate for shipping with insurance included by USPS Parcel Select (formerly called Parcel Post) to anywhere in the U.S.A. will be $15. This method may take longer, but should save money for both of us. I don't ship my cut glass outside of the U.S.A. Please don't ask me to make an exception just for you. I will gladly combine multiple purchases at a reduced rate based on the buyer's location.

I will try my best to send out items within 24 hours of receiving payment. If this is not possible I will inform the buyer of the intended shipping date. Shipping including insurance is given as a flat rate to anywhere in the U.S.A. Depending on the buyers location and size of the box, I will use at my discretion either USPS Priority Mail or USPS Parcel Post. If by some chance my flat rate amount is larger than the actual cost, I will refund the difference. I do not charge for packing materials & handling. I pack all items very carefully to ensure a safe arrival.
