This is a wonderful find of a rare, gorgeous, hand carved, working, large, 8 day cuckooclock that was created about 55 years ago in the Black Forest of \"Germany\" by \"Henry Cohler,\" and marketed under his HECO fine line of clocks! It is truly a beautiful clock with unusual carved wooden birds on the front of the case and all is finished in medium walnut with a wonderful patina! The clock is hand carved from cured and aged Linden wood and adorned in front with five large, deeply hand carved grape leaves. Another grape leaf is found on the wooden pendulum. There is a hand carved wooden bird perched on the grape vine to lower left of the dial and an equally impressive 3 D carved wooden bird perched to the vine to the upper right part of the dial. There is another stunning, large carved wooden bird atop the clock, looking as though he\'s ready to take flight. The clock is just magnificent and equally impressive in size measuring about 14\" (not counting the chains or pendulum), about 6\" or so at its deepest point, and about 9 1/2\" or so at its widest point. The dial has a black backdrop on the chapter ring and features large, easy to read, raised whiteRoman numerals to mark the hours and fancy matching hands to point out thetime. There is brass metal script just above the dial that reads, \"HECO 8 day.\" The clock has a wooden back that is secured with a metal latch. It removes to allow access to the weight driven, mechanical, 8 day clock movement produced by \"Regula\" and bearing the Henry Cohler name. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need tobe pulled every 8 days or as often as you wish to wind the clock and cuckoo activity. Regula makes the best movements and Henry used this brand of movement in all of their high end clocks. The bellow tubes are in good shape and the tops look and sound good too! Atthe bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opens the small door above the dialand stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled cathedral chime inside the case before retreating back inside theclock, closing the door behind him. The bird reappears at the top of eachhour and correctly cuckoos/chimes the current number of hours before retreatingto the safe confines of the inner clock; fascinating! The clock worksquite well here, keeps good time, and cuckoos as it should though it is an oldclock and we don\'t know the service history. However, the movement looks to have had regular service but there is no record of this. Nonetheless, some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock arrives atits new home. We always recommend to our clock customers to service theirantique or vintage clocks at least once every three years. Doing so willpreserve a great clock like this one and keep it running strong. Theclock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a woodengrape leaf pendulum, and two very heavy pinecone shaped metal weights.I\'ve looked the clock over fairly well and can\'t find any missingpieces, repairs, or damage...very nice patina! It is a very impressive old clock and an excellent example of the greatness of Black Forestworkmanship.
