ITEM DESCRIPTION: U.S. 210 tied by "Greenport, NY, August 13, 1884" Postmark with"Washington, DC 5, August 18, 1884, 5 PM", blue MISDIRECTED, purple "Deficiency in address supplied, Dead Letter Office", manuscript 117, on reverse "New York Transit, August 13, 1884 1:30 PM", "Colchester, August 19" and triangular "Dead Letter Office. DSA, August 18, 1884" postmark, addressed to Colchester, MA with address corrected to Connecticut and with OXA1, perforation 10 1/2 on its reverse. Also included is a letter with the opening sentence "What in the world has become of you?". Scarce and exceptional postal history.
