US Army USMC Marine Vietnam 1ST PATTERN \"STRAPLESS\" M-65 FIELD JACKET 1966 Vtg:
$99.99

US troops shivered in the cold, wet monsoon season in Vietnam\'s Central Highlands. Stocks of the new M-65 field jacket began to arrive in-country in 1967, and it was an instant favorite with the troops. It featured an integral stow-away hood in its zippered collar, and could accept a warm button-in liner. The M-65 was introduced just as the shoulder straps were being eliminated from the jungle jacket, as such the 1st pattern M-65s also carried no epaulettes. Officers and combat leaders, who wore insignias of rank and status on the shoulder straps complained bitterly, and the design was quickly changed to one with epaulettes, making any 1st pattern \"strapless\" M-65 rare today. This US Army USMC Marine Vietnam 1ST PATTERN \"STRAPLESS\" M-65 FIELD JACKET is in good condition, with some stitch holes at each side of the chest where a \"U.S. ARMY\" tab and name tape once were, some brownish spot soiling at the right chest, some light brownish soiling and a spot of whitish soiling at the lower right sleeve, a spot of dark soiling and a small spot of brownish soiling at the lower middle front, a bit of restitching to the velcro square at the left cuff, some light dark soiling around the inner collar, some restitching to one button at the inside neck, the size tag at the inside neck having been sewn a bit off-center to the left, the instruction label having been removed from the interior lower right front, two long lines of surface nicking, some light whitish soiling, and a small spot of dark soiling at the upper back, and with some scattered age wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the jacket is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough OD 100% cotton construction. Most interestingly, it\'s a Size Medium Regular, boasts a fully functional \"CONMAR\" silver metal front zipper with an OD cotton web pull, and carries no epaulettes, distinguishing it as a scarce 1st pattern \"strapless\" M-65.It features 4 snap flap closure front pockets, sports all of the original darkened brass snaps, dimpled OD plastic buttons, and OD cotton drawstrings throughout, and is dated 1966 (DSA-100) on the original nomenclature tag inside.
