U.s. Model 1917 Bayonet, Dated 1918, By Remington, No British Proofs:
This is a very nice and very clean U.S. MODEL 1917 Bayonet. This bayonet is either UNISSUED or was arsenal reworked, it shows hardly any use or wear at all, this is one of the nicer Model 1917 bayonets we have seen for some time. This bayonet was manufactured by REMINGTON and so stamped in a circular stamping on the ricasso. The date stamped on this bayonet is "1918", you don't see this 1918 date that often, most arestamped with the date1917. This bayonet comes with a British scabbard that is just as nice as the bayonet. This is a bit unusual to have the British scabbard since there are not British proof marks on this bayonet. This bayonet will fit many weapons. It will fit the British P14 Enfield, the U.S. 1917 Enfield and it will fit most of the U.S. Trench Shotguns issuedfrom WW1 through Vietnam. This bayonet will also fit most of the older Police and Prison shotguns that have the heat shield and bayonet lug. Again, this is a very nice bayonet and scabbard and I would give it an overall rating of NEAR EXCELLENT. The blade retains about 90% plus of the original finish. I can see some light scratches and finish wear near the tip and some light runner marks on the blade. There is one ding in the upperright wood grip area panel near the crossguard, see picture #3. There are a couple of small dings in the grips, but they are hardly noticeable. There is a slight difference in shade of wood on the two grips, the left grip is a little lighter color wood. The black leather scabbard with the metal throat and tip is very nice, but thereare some scuffs to the black leather body thatI am sure are from storageand handling only. THIS IS A VERY NICE BAYONET AND SCABBARD,I DON'T THINK YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTEDIF YOUPURCHASE IT. IF YOU ARE, RETURN IT FOR A 100% REFUND OF YOUR PURCHASEPRICE.
