Us Navy Wwii Submariner Submarine Sub Sterling Silver Mermaid Sweetheart Pin:
Up for sale is this U.S. Navy World War II sterling silver mermaid pin honoring the “Silent Service” of submariners. It would have been given to a sweetheart back home. The pin depicts a mermaid sitting in kelp or seaweed. The seaweed is in the shape of a V, signifying VICTORY. The pin is 1 3/8 inches tall and 1 inch wide. The back is stamped STERLING and contains the hallmark for the UNCAS Company. Uncas began production in 1911 and began using this hallmark in the mid 1920s. (They were best known for their production of finger rings.) The pin is in very good condition.
This pin is showcased in David A. Jones book, U.S. Silent Service: Dolphins & Combat Insignia 1924-1945.

I looked up the pin to which the person referred to on another site. It has a different style clasp (a newer style) than the clasp on the one I am selling. It is listed as a reproduction. There is also a reproduction currently listed on that also has the same clasp as the one on the other site. It, too, is listed as a reproduction. I very strongly believe that this pin is authentic. Thank you!
