To defeat Japan, US power in the Pacific grew to include thousands of warships and 6 full divisions of Marines. After turning the tide at Guadalcanal, the Leathernecks slugged it out with the Japanese island by island on the long, hard road to Tokyo. US Marines of WW2 were issued a rugged 7\" blade fighting knife that quickly became known simply as the \"KA-BAR\". This USMC Marine US WW2 BLADE MARKED KA-BAR FIGHTING KNIFE is in fair condition, with heavy rounding to the blade tip, heavy sharpening and grinding to the upper blade edge and the top false edge, moderate pitting at the right side of the blade, some pitting at the left side of the blade, some loosening to the guard and handle washers, moderate roughening to the handle, moderate reshaping to the pommel, and with moderate overall age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the knife is in fair shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it features a 6.5\" clip point bowie blade that retains some of the original blued finish, sports the classic stacked leather washer \"tootsie roll\" handle, and is stamped at the ricasso with its maker, the famous \"KA-BAR / OLEAN, N.Y\", along with \"USMC\" marked at the reverse ricasso. It boasts a thin steel guard and a reshaped steel pommel, and is complete with the original USMC WW2 Leather Scabbard in good condition, having been refinished a very dark \"cordovan\" brown, and with moderate scratching at front and back, some drying, wrinkling, and downward curling to the end tip, some scattered verdigris to the brass hardware throughout, missing the back left throat rivet, and with some overall age wear evident (most pictured). Otherwise, the scabbard is in fine shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it bears a fully functional brass \"glove\" snap closure leather handle retention strap, carries the traditional darkened brass rivets and brown cotton stitching down the sides, and the set is an honest example of a rare, originalUSMC Marine US WW2 BLADE MARKED KA-BAR FIGHTING KNIFE.
