Uss Enterprise Nuclear Aircraft Carrier Ship Boat Desk Model Ashtray Launching For Sale
this sale is for a very large US navy CVN-65 USS
enterprise Nuclear aircraft carrier manufacturer’s desk display model ashtray
made by the Newport News Ship Building company most likely between 1958 and
1961. This ship model ashtray is made of cast and machined aluminum in multiple
pieces and welded together. There is excellent detail to the anchors, tower,
flight deck and hull. All of the important information is deeply engraved into
the metal: Compliments of the Builder Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock
Company, USS Enterprise Nuclear Powered. The tower is also engraved “65”. Size:
16 3/4” long, 3 1/2” wide and 2 1/2”tall. Weight is approx 2 lbs.
Enterprise’s keel was laid In 1958 at Newport News
Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, the ship was launched on 24 September 1960,
and commissioned on 25 November 1961. USS Enterprise (CVN-65) is the world’s
first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier and the eighth United States naval
vessel to bear the name, she is nicknamed “Big E”. At 1,123 ft (342 m), she is
the longest naval vessel in the world. The only ship of her class, Enterprise
was the second-oldest commissioned vessel in the United States Navy after the
wooden-hulled USS Constitution. She was originally scheduled for
decommissioning in 2013, having served for 51 consecutive years, longer than
any other U.S. aircraft carrier.
