United Daughter\'s Of The Confederacy Membership Certificate - 1917. The United Daughter\'s Of The Confederacy were very active in the early 1900s with the old vets - they designed medals and awarded certificates to the former Confederate Soldiers. The U.C.V of this period held their meetings and camps that memorialized the service of these men in the 1861 - 1865 War For Southern Independence. These attractive sealed documents were awarded to people who could claim a soldier in that destructive conflict. Mrs. Daisy Atkinson Fuchiss, was given membership through her father Mr. P. H. Atkinson who served in Dance\'s Powhatan 1st Virginia Artillery Co. B. This unit fought with The Army Of Northern Virginia and served with distinction at Gettysburg and most were captured in the closing days of the war at Saylor\'s Creek. The certificate is signed by several members of the UDC Powhatan Chapter such as President General Cordelia Powell Odenheimer and local president: Mary Lewis Tucker along with state president Nelly Preston. Its still bright enough to frame with signatures still dark and was awarded one hundred years ago on March 14, 1917. These older ones are becoming harder to find. Comes from a smoke free home.
