Unknown Early 18" Spring Jointed Old Antique Composition Character Baby Doll:
UP FOR ADOPTION & a littleTLChere is an oldantique character baby doll.I doNOT know her maker, reference shows similar dolls made in the 1915 - 1920 period. It also tells me "Jessie McCutchen Raleigh" made spring jointed dolls in this period with an "artistic" merit, they looked like real children, there was also another maker "Colonial Toy" that made spring jointed dolls in the 1915 to 1920s. I will trydescribe this doll the best I can. Unmarked she measures 18" tall being all composition, being spring jointed at the arms and legs with all fingers and toes intact. She is spring jointed fine and not loose at all. I have shown a photo of her shoulder joint and spring. Body showssome minor composition crazing but nothing terrible. The fingers on her hands are longer than you normally see.Her body style has a"life-like" appearance.Beautiful character face with painted brown eyes with an artistic brush stroke applied. There is a white accent dot to the right of each pupil, dainty painted brown lashes around the eyes, red accent dots in the corner of eyes and nostrils, single stroke brownbrows she has moldedmouth space between lips, tiny painted upper teeth with look of a molded tongue. Light color blush on her face. Looking at this composition head the left side shows a line crackin the composition that will need a little restoration. It is all together but needs composition and paint restoration, the "back" of her headneck shows composition lifting that will requirerestoration as well. Blonde mohair is glued on a netthat is secure on the head (see photo #8 and #9).A little restoration may be needed with her mohair, it is soft and charming but has come away from the netting in places.Clothing is old and worn, a tear and stain on the dress, there is a slip but no stockings or shoes. I have taken plenty of photos, please look at my photos to serve as part of this description. If you would like further photos or have questions please email me.
