Unusual Antique 1865 Silver Coffin Plate/plaque, Funeral, Victorian, Mourning For Sale
What an interesting piece. Actually two pieces. These were apparently sisters who died within one month of each other in 1865. This listing is for "Susan Townsend, Died Aug. 3rd 1865 AE (Aged) 20 Years 1 Mo & 14 days" This is an amazing example of Victorian mourning art. I have tried to photograph the two mourning women in the lower right and left corners. The one on the left is standing next to a grave and the one on the right is kneeling in front of a church and next to a fresh grave. This is likely high content silver but it is not marked. There is a slight angulation in the right lower corner but it is very subtle and is barely noticeable in the photos. The size is roughly 5.5 inches by 3.75 inches. I have listed the second piece, for Delinda Townsend, separately.
