Unusual French Art Deco Lady Glitter Compact Green Celluloid Brazil 1920s:
Unusual compact with a rare dark green celluloid base and a lid with a flapper hair-styled girl releasing a bird (canary?) and wearing a green and black gown, laid over a glitter background. The picture is made from a piece of reverse painted clear celluloid laid over silver glitter or confetti. This is unusual in that whilst it was made in France - with 'Depose' (or, 'for export') on the base - it also has an old sticker for Brazil in the base. This was bought from South America (Argentina I think) some years ago and I think it must have been originally exported to Rio from France in the 1920s.The red Brazil sticker reads: 'Brasil. Consumo. 500. Reis'.Perhaps this explains why the celluloid base is in bad condition having shrunk and cracked - the heat and humidity of the Brazilian (or Argentinian) climate perhaps? The lid measures 4.4 cm across and the base is 5 cm across. About 1.2 cm deep. Please note that the pictures also act as part of the description.Comes with a yellow stitched puff.Damaged but a very unusual, evocative piece. From a non-smoking, pet-free home.Any questions, please ask. Please pay within two days.PayPal only.
