Unusual Vintage Northeastern Splint Ash Egg Or Vegetable Basket W/ Four Feet For SaleUp for sale is a beautifully crafted old medium-sized NorthEastern splint ash vegetable or egg gathering basket. It has beautiful detailing, and would have been intended for use as a vegetable or egg gathering baskets. Its most unusual feature is the four looped ash "feet" on the corners for the basket to rest on - it was probably made this way to hold the basket up off the ground. The basket also features a whittled bentwood ash handle which is smooth and polished from actual use, and a bentwood ash frame. The rim is really nice, with its evenly wrapped ash splints. This is definitely an older basket, with a gorgeous aged patina; this basket was never stained or painted and all the color you see is due to honest age. This beautifully woven old splint ash basket will make a terrific addition to someone's collection and is still sturdy enough that you could tote your vegetables with it if desired.
The basket, as noted, is a nice medium size for one of these old farm baskets. It measures 13½" x 9" across at the rim, 6¼" deep, and 10" tall to the top of the handle. The basket is in really nice condition, with no breaks, holes, or missing splints, including on the rim. The feet (as you might expect) have a little wear, but none of them is shattered or missing. See photos, as they give a true picture of the basket's features and condition. It's a very nice old Northern splint ash basket, and it makes a beautiful piece for display.
