Nice Cast Iron Black Americana \"Jolly Negro\" Still Coin Bank. This is a super nice bank made of heavy cast iron and has nice paint. A Black Americana mechanical bank known as the \"Jolly Negro\" . You can see what is printed on the back of this bank in my pictures. The bank is marked on the bottom with \"John Harper & Co. England\" The coin goes in his hand then you pull the lever on his back and the arm and hand moves up to his mouth and drops the coin into his mouth and the coin then goes down into the bank. Also when you pull the lever his eyes roll back in his head and his tongue moves back so the coin will drop down his throat. It does still work. There is a straight screw in the bottom to open and retrieve your coins. The bank measures 6 1/2 inches tall and 4 1/4 inches across the base. Banks are made for show and the coin my or may not go in his mouth.
