Us Navy - Gold-tone Metal Officer's Cap Shaped Compact - Circa 1940s / Ww Ii Era:
Great novelty compact that is shaped like a military officer's cap. This one isgold tone metal; and has the US NAVY raised insignia on the front;of ananchor with USN over-layn&raised directly into the metal. The compact opens by simply lifting up on thevery toppart of the cap;revealing thecase gluedmirror in the lid, which has some silvering issues around the beveled edges & where it was case glued (as most of these did). This one is different in how it opens, vs the plastics...as ONLY the top opens, not at the band, like the plastics. As well, the bill and band are shiny metal, where as the rest of the compact exterior, is a brushed finish (some discoloring to the metal front - check pix for details). Of note, the bill and band are made as a separate piece, that is applied via two tiny pins, that extend the band to 1/4" beyond the bill on both sides of the cap. Once opened, you find the fitted loose powder sifter, the gross grain topped and ribbon handled puff, PLUS: the original price tag -stating these were sold for $3.00 -back in the day !!! Doesn't appear to have ever been used. Measures just shy of 3" across the cap top, by 1 & 1/4" thickat the tallest point. Circa 1940's... In good overall condition, as can be readily seen in the pix; plus still has the box it was originally presented in, plus the light brown felt protective pouch. This is the only military cap we've had, in 40+ years of collecting, that has the US Navy insignia vs the Armed Forces insignia. Wouldn't this make a nice gift for someone who has a family member in the US NAVY ! Don't miss getting this little bit of"Military Americana"in honor of ourGreat US of A !!!
