  • Up for sale is a Sycoco Plaque by V. Ivanoff. This piece is really quite cool. It is heavy and very intricate. There are a few chips butthey arehardly noticeable at all (Please see Pics) and overall this piece is in excellent condition.Prices for this piece vary widely but few are in such nice condition. I did some research and found the following. .

  • It is NOT of the American West, but rather as, Debra observes, South African Afrikaners (not Danes) trekking. They\'re better known as Boers (Afrikaans for \"farmers\"), hence the palm trees (acacia), the 16 oxen, and the \"voorlooper\" with the whip. Oddly, the horseman on the far side of the oxen facing out even looks a lot like Paul Krueger. Mike\'s mention of a battle scene with a laager and Zulus sounds like a depiction of the Battle of blood River, another Boer iconic image and suggests to me that Ivanoff was connected somehow to South Africa and the Boers- perhaps his birthplace? The material of the plaque is called \"syroco\" and has a Wikipedia entry.

Good Luck and Enjoy!
