*OUTSTANDING* all original Charles Clewell copper (bronze?) clad Arts & Crafts handled vase. This is a rare Clewell form that dates from the 1920s, and isone ofhis most desirable (and rare) forms. The handles epitomize the Arts & Crafts aesthetic of the early 20th century - elegant, organic, balanced. The vase measures 5-1/4\" tall and is 7-1/2\" wide at its widest, handle to handle. Clearly signed on the bottom Clewell and the model 408-2-6. The vase is in good vintage, all original condition. I very gently wiped it with a damp cloth so as not to disturb the finish, however it could use a professional cleaning. I have read that the finish is more fragile than it appears, so I would caution you against a home cleaning, especially with any kind of soap. There is some wear to the vase as pictured, a few light scratches due to being around 100 years old, but nothing deep. There is a small bump to the rim that I believe is original as it seems to be under the finish. Also this has a light speckle of white latex paint, as if it was near a wall that someone was painting with a roller. I flicked off a couple of the tiny dots with my fingernail (they came off easily with no damage), however I didn\'t want to hurt the finish, so all cleaning is left to the winner. The colors of the patina are absolutely gorgeous with areas of gorgeous red/orange rust and of course the signature blue green patina for which Clewell is so well known.

The secret to Clewell\'s metal clad finish was destroyed upon his death and has not been replicated. He was inspired to create this unique finish after learning of a Roman piece unearthed by JP Morgan in the 19th century.

This is a heavy piece, weighing 36.35 ounces. This will be double boxed, sent via USPS Priority insured,and the shipping weight will be 4-5#. Because of the necessity to double box, unfortunately this cannot fit in a large flat rate box. If you prefer shipping via another carrier, I\'m happy to work with you. I will not send this via parcel post, however.
