Very Rare Triple Iron Gothic Sash Moulding Plane By Nelson:
VERY RARE TRIPLE IRON GOTHIC SASH MOULDING PLANE BY NELSON
9 1/2" in length, 1 5/8" wide. Toe stamped NELSON; the incuse, earliest mark in BPM; dating it to around 1800. This date is further evidenced by the plane's wide, flat chamfers. Heel stamped '6/8' - to cut a 3/4" astragal and hollow sash bar. This very rare plane has a number of unusual features; there is a top mouth for the centre iron which cuts the astragal part of the mould and the forward irons discharge through side escapements which are closed at the bottom. It is virtually identical to the triple iron sash plane depicted in BPMIII, page 85. Excellent condition for age.
