About This Record. Here's the first of part of my Very SPECIAL Velvet Underground and Lou Reed Collection for sale. Not to forget some of my Captain Beefheart that will soon be on the chopping block. No more hyping other than to say please CHECK my response which shows you my grading Cover/Vinyl of other LPs I have recently sold and what the lucky people who are now taking care of my vinyl thought about our experience.

This is the Holy Grail of all Velvet Underground vinyl LPs, their very first LP on USA Verve Records V-5008 featuring Nico and the infamous Andy Warhol banana album complete with original uncensored Eric Emerson Torso cover and supremely rare D.J. Samples Sticker and in the sought-after white label promo mono format. Rumored to be limited to 50 copies that were distributed by Andy Warhol himself, and not many of those have survived. I bought this $1,136.00 on on July 23, 2010, and have the documentation to prove it that I will pass on to the winning buyer with the LP, or separately via mail. No worries, my Reserve for this sale is much less to be sporting. I had visions of gathering all the cool VU promotional stuff, but I give up and hope to help out someone else in that quest.

Cover Condition: VG Comes with super rare DJ Promo “D.J. Samples Promotional Copies” sticker on front cover! I am not sure if there ever was a banana affixed to the DJ copies of this LP that were released in white label format, but there is no banana attached here, and no indication there ever was a banana attached. The top seam is split about 3-4 inches top right and the rest of the seam is rough and flaking. Strong spine; bottom seam is intact but ready to split about 1-2 inches on bottom right corner. Nobody has tampered with the DJ sticker. Definitely an original fixture.

I didn't take them for fun and frolic.Vinyl Condition: VG Plays strong, but with light background noise between tracks, and Importantly tracks A1 (Sunday Morning) and A3 (Femme Fatal) have a couple of short skips a.k.a. jumps forward that detract from those two songs, but otherwise the LP plays great. Noticeable paper marks and some noticeable scratches, one of which you can feel on track A1. Some light fingerprints on the vinyl as well, but vinyl is still very glossy.

Inserts: Comes cleaned on my VPI Record Cleaning Machine and in a new protective innersleeve (so the old dust does not reattach! OH my gosh!!.

Labels: white label promo DJ labels are in EX+/VG+ condition because one side has a very very light price sticker removal shadow mark; both sides have some light spindle marks (see photos of all labels)

Packaging. I clean all vinyl on my V.P.I. Record Cleaning Machine and place it in a new innersleeve so the old dust does not reattach; but I also include the innersleeve that came with the LP if it is the original. I separate the vinyl in its new sleeve after cleaning from the cover, and place the cover and the separately packed vinyl in at least one if not two plastic outer sleeves that help protect against moisture damage during this cool transition to your record collection. I use sturdy cardboard containers with real corners and pack with at least one insert stiffener, and I place neon stickers on the front and back of the package indicating “Do Not Bend” and “Fragile” to help facilitate a safe passage.
