Up for sale is a Victorian Civil War Era Pyriform style, Grecian designed covered sugar or tea caddy by Meriden Britannia Company from the early 1860's. The book American Silver Plate by Dorothy and Ivan Rainwater picture the pattern on page 103 in the chapter, Development of Styles and give the date of manufacture of 1867. The design, typical Rococo, is in one of the highly collectible "Mask Patterns", this one featuring the applied lion faces for legs and Grecian designed etchings. There are no monograms or dents. The inside is clean and usable, no visible repairs and the silver plate is in good condition as shown.
