These are a lovely pair of VICTORIAN solid sterling silver LARGE salts that were made in London, England in 1856 by the illustrious Victorian silversmiths,Robert Harper & Sonsat their Red Lion Street workshops in Clerkenwell. These stunning salts are cauldron shaped, have beautifully decorated beaded edges, embossed sidesand stand on three elegant feet. They are engraved to the cartouches on the front with the monogram N. The salts measure over 2 5/8" in diameter and stand 1 3/8" high. They are rather substantial - each salt weighs61.2 grams - making a total ofalmost 4troy oz.
The salts are in excellent condition withjust the usual surface scratching, NO dents and just two dings between the pair, and even NO compression to the feet - SUPERB. Each of the salts is hallmarked with RH, leopard head, lion passant (sterling silver assay mark),a, Victoria duty mark showing that each salt was hallmarked in London in 1856.I have shown the hallmarks so that you can make up your own mind. A really stunning and rare pair of VICTORIAN salts in superb condition afteralmost 160years at a very low start and !!!
