13+ troy oz - ATKIN BROS - Super Condition - PEDESTAL
This is a really stunning ANTIQUE VICTORIAN solid sterling silver LARGE fruit bowl or rose bowl that was made in Sheffield, England in 1894 by the illustrious Victorian silversmiths, ATKIN BROTHERS at their Matilda Street workshops. It has a beautiful circular design with beautiful edge decoration, has lovely half reeded and embossed decoration to the sides and is raised on a substantial pedestal base. It measures8" in diameter and stands4 7/8" high. It is VERY substantial - it weighs407.0 grams - which iswell over 13troy oz. It is engraved to the cartouche with the intertwined initials HR.
It is in very good condition for its age with just the usual surface scratching, almost NO dings, NO dents and almost NO distortion - SUPERB - just the usual stress cracking to the rim. This beautiful piece is hallmarked withHA, crown, lion passant (sterling silver assay mark),b showing that it was hallmarked in Sheffield in 1894. I have shown the hallmark so that you can make up your own mind. This is a really super quality IMPRESSIVE VICTORIAN piece afteralmost 120 years in a fantastic design - I'm afraid that my pictures do not really do it justice!!!
