Vienna Austria Bronze & Enamel & Ormolu 3 Panel Miniature Screen Antique:
VIENNA AUSTRIA 3 PANEL MINIATURE SCREEN BRONZE & ENAMEL
Beautiful early 20th century miniature screen with handpainted enamel on copperscenic figural panels. This is a tri fold 3 panel screen with the two sides on hinges that fold to 90 degrees. The right side not quite 90 degrees. The enamel garden scenes are mounted in bronze frames and the panels seem to make one continuousscene. The left has a seated male figure, the center a couple and a female on the right playing a mandolin. The screen measures 4 7/8 high and is 5 1/2 " across the three panels. Each side panel is 3 3/4 " x 1 1/2 ". Each panel is backed with gilt metal. It has an original dark patina that has not been cleaned. There is no damage to the metal. The right scene with the female figure has2 fine thin cracks that are pictured. You can feel them with a fingernail. There is a small circular spot to the right of the head of the left single male figure but I did not try to clean it. It looks as if something dripped on the enamel. There is no signature on any of the panels but there seems to be something impressed on the back but it could be just tiny dents as I cannot make anything out. The enamel scenes are well executed in muted colorsbut my flash lightens them a bit. The patina is not quite as dark as some of the photos and I am sure the ormolu was at one time bright. The screen will stand by itself and the hinges are working well. As I mentioned the left one will not fold to a complete 90 degree angle. It is quite heavy and weighs over 6 ounces.
