This is a large and striking black and white reclining cat figure made by the Polish Cmielow factory in the late 1950's - early 1960's. The cat measures 12 inches long x 5 inches high and on the base you can see the 1950's Cmielow factory trade mark logo together with the model number. Please note that this is a vintage cat figure made over 40 yearsagonot a modern one - just look at the photos of the backstamp - modern figures have a new look bright red logo. The Cmielow porcelain factorywas established in 1804 and was one of the finest porcelain manufacturers in Polandproducing high quality decorative items. A firedestroyed the factory in 1964 and it was many years before production started again.This figure of a recliningcat was createdin 1958 by the designer Mieczyslaw Naruszewicz with an abstract design inspired by Henry Moore and Picasso. The condition is very good - there are no chips, cracks, damage or repairs to be found and the colours are bright and crisp with no loss. For accuracy in my description I will point out that thereare a couple of very tiny pinheadareas of loss to the back of the back and a small underglaze "bump" which has been there since the cat was made but these do not detract in any way.This vintage large and striking Cmielow black and white cat designed by Mieczyslaw Naruszewicz would make an ideal gift or a great addition to any collection
