This sale is for a completely restored, Western Electric model 500 CD telephone. All of the date stampsindicate that this telephone was assembledat the beginning of February, 1955. Some are dated the end of January, whileothers the verybeginning of February.
The model 500 was produced by Western Electric from 1950 right up until the divestiture of AT&T in 1983. They were not widely distributed until around 1953 as the previous model 302 was being phased out.
It\'s somewhat rare to come across one of these phones that still has all of it\'s original components. Once replaced or taken out of service, these phones went back to Western Electric facilities to be refurbished, which included replacing worn or defective parts.Often times,the components were replaced in the field by repairmen, if suspected to be faulty. Judging by it\'s condition, this telephone may have sat for years in the same home, with very little use.
This telephone has the original G1 bakelte handset with the original bakelite transmitter and receiver caps. It was thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, then buffed to it\'s original shine. The quality of the voice transmission is excellent, just like it was nearly sixty years ago. I have installed a modular line cord so that it will fit in todays modern phone jacks. It\'s ready for you to plug in and enjoy.
The original plastic housing has a matching date stamp as well. It has no cracks, scuffs,or deep scratches and with the exception of a few fleabites in the back, it is exceptional. It was also cleaned and sanitized, then buffed to a beautiful shine.
The bottom, or base, is nice and clean with no rust or damage. The original leather feet are in excellent condition with very little wear.
I have been working on telephones for forty-one years. I can remember installing these old phones and even wiring them for party-lines. Do you remember those? I spend many hours on each and every telephone that I restore, making sure that they meet or exceed your expectations.
