This lovely, 8” Betsy Mc Call with her NEAR COMPLETE outfitwere made only in 1957—the first year of this doll’s production. As you read the description and view thepictures, you will find that she seems to have experienced very little ‘play’from her childhood owner. Her fewissues come from the passage of time.Please read the description BEFORE you offer. You will find that I am very picky in my description.

Betsy’s positive points:

-- thick, rarer BRUNETTE hair sewn to a wig mesh base (onlyused on 1st year dolls) with BOTH ORIGINAL BARRETTES and NO BALDSPOTS; is a little messy in the back and could use a little styling.

-- NO CHEEK RUBS or other missingfacial features, though one cheek is lighter than the other.

-- lovely BLUE eyes with perfect upper lashes; LONGER LOWERLASHES as were often painted on 1st year dolls

-- arms are on original rubber band, not loose, and willhold poses nicely (A little band hasbeen added inside of the original to help it hold snuggly.)

-- only open seam is the crotch (see below)

-- 1st year plastic knee pegs still present andnot broken

-- NO KNEE CRACKS OR FLARING

-- knees bend easily; but neither knee will hold a pose

NOTE: I am notlisting the swingy lower legs under the ‘Not-So-Positive’ section because Ifeel that this is caused by the character of the mechanism and the passage oftime, not by abuse.

-- lighter DUSKY PINK, clean, EVEN SKIN TONE overall— notfaded or yellowed by exposure bad Environmental effects

-- no thin dark crack/stress lines on the lower legs whichis often seen on these vintage dolls

-- McCall mark in a circle on her back

-- Her legs are stable enough to allow her to STAND EASILSYON HER OWN with very little, carefulpositioning of her arms and legs (a little swingy as are most). She will still need a stand for safedisplay.

-- LEGS ARE NOT SWINGY AT HIPS, just the lower halves of thelegs

Not-so-positive points:

(I am being very, very nit-pickyabout things that some other Sellers wouldn\'t have bothered listing and whichmay have gone unnoticed without my mentioning them. I do not believe that they take from her loveliness, nor hercollect ability.)

-- tiny blue dot on chest nearright arm opening (left side of picture and may be too small to see)

-- very small dent on right sideof her chest

-- eyes need help opening and closing (not a bad thing—Ijust wanted to mention it).

-- crotch seam has opened (very narrowly, about ‘2 hair’swidth’)

-- head has been reattached withelastic cording—It is not really a downside because many times a head that isreattached (elastic cording is all that you can get back up in there) is muchsturdier than one with an original band that has loosened with age which makesthe head ‘floppy’. However, a headwithout a sturdy original band might be of concern to a ‘purist’collector. I want to be up-front withmy customers so that they are not disappointed with what they purchase—alovely, pre-loved Betsy!

Clothes:

Betsy is wearing the 1957 ‘Mommy’sHelper’ outfit. All that isneeded to complete the outfit is a red handled dust mop.

The romper is in Excellent condition—clean with noproblems. You will see a white line onthe front at waist level. This camefrom the stand that the doll that was wearing this clothing item was a displayBetsy doll.

The cobbler’s apron looks to be Near Mint—clean and crispwith no obvious problems, but the bottom snap has partially torn away from thefabric. This cannot be seen because itis covered by the top snap. This itemwas part of another ‘Mother’s Helper’ set.This is shown by the white stripes in the apron are a tiny bit whiterthat the stripes in the romper.

The sandals are vintage originals to Betsy. The elastic on both sandals has darken a lotover the years and the cardboard soles are worn. The elastic on one of the shoes had stretched out of shape, so Itightened it back up by cutting out the extra elastic and sewing the ends backtogether. As you can see in thepictures it looks very much like the other while on display.

*** These items came to me through purchases. I have a smoke free home and I do not smell unpleasant odorson them, but I cannot guarantee what Environment they came from. In myopinion, this adorable girl will make an excellent addition to your collection.
