Vintage Antique Victorian Jewelry Box - Solid Oak - With Rare Steel Safe Liner For SaleThis vintage Victorian jewelry box has been around for as long as I can remember. I don't recall it ever being in great shape, but now is in extremely rough condition - See attached photos. It dates from around 1900. The case appears to be solid oak - not plywood. The unique box metal liner is plated (tin?) steel with a heavy, hinged, cast steel (iron?) combination "safe" door. The combination lock and latch does not work, but all or most of the parts are still there (in a bag). The combination lock dial and most of the lock parts are brass. The finely detailed ornamentation is nonferrous metal, some brass and some (probably zinc) die casting. It originally had a gold-colored, silk pleated upholstery on the inside of the wooden top, but it had virtually disintegrated, so I put it out of it's misery before taking the pictures. It would not take much for a dedicated collector to restore this rare and collectable artifact to its former Victorian glory!
