Item Description:
This is a vintage Star Pond Yacht made by Birkenhead in England. Birkenhead closed in 1990 and their pond yachts, which they began making in the early 1930s, have become very collectible. These boats were very a very popular toy for children, especially in England and France. (And I can see why, I\'m so tempted to find a pond and give it a try.)This boat has been beautifully crafted and well made. It measures 27\" long. With stand, it measures 40 1/2\" tall (about 39 1/2\" without the stand). This boat is in excellent condition and looks like it might not have ever been used. Everything seems to be working well, the rudder moves easily, the sails also seem to adjust well. It was purchased from an Arizona estate where it was one of a collection of 3 Birkenhead Star boats that were safely kept in a display cabinet. Star Yachts are renowned around the world for their, iconic, range of model sailing boats and were in production from just after the first world war right up until the sad demise of the company in 1990.
